Big bang in TATA IPL. Caribbean pacer Shamar Joseph, who made his Test debut for West Indies, will play for Lucknow Super Giants in the TATA IPL 2024.


He was signed by Sanjiv Goenka's team for three crore rupees(3 Cr). England pacer Mark Wood will not play in IPL 2024. He was replaced by 24-year-old West Indies player Shamar Joseph.

Shamar's joining in Lucknow has been announced yesterday in the BCCI press release. Shamar Joseph made his Test debut last month. Still no T20 or ODI debut for the country. He took 13 wickets in 2 Tests in the first Test series.


BCCI's statement read that Mark Wood will not play in the IPL and Shamar has replaced him. Mark Wood is in England's Test squad for the tour of India. He played in the Hyderabad Test but was not in the Visakhapatnam XI. ESPNcricinfo claims that the ECB is not releasing Wood, who has a central contract, in the IPL.

According to ESPN Cricinfo, the ECB has dropped Wood, a centrally contracted player, from IPL 2024 to handle the workload on him. Because the T20 World Cup is going to be held in June and England will play against the West Indies and Sri Lanka for Test matches in the domestic summer.


Recently, the ECB banned Jofra Archer from being named in the IPL 2024 auction as the board did not want to take any risk ahead of the T20 World Cup.


Lucknow Super Giants bought Wood for Rs 7.5 crore from the 2022 IPL auction. However, he could not play the service due to an elbow injury. In last year's IPL, Wood took 11 wickets in four matches at an average of 11.82. He was replaced by Joseph, who dismissed Steve Smith on the first ball of his Test career.
